With Cloud Collision, OTEE launches Open Water with a five-track EP that places rhythm and atmosphere at the heart of its musical identity. The Berlin-based DJ and producer draws on years of experience behind the decks and in the studio, delivering a debut that prioritises the gradual construction of tension over immediate impact on the dancefloor.

The opening title track, “Cloud Collision”, sets the tone for the record. Instead of relying on oversized drops or abrupt shifts in direction, OTEE builds through repetition, measured progression and the subtle interaction between percussion and space. The result is a functional yet thoughtful piece of club music, driven by a groove that gradually reveals its character.

“Moto” follows a similarly restrained approach, examining the relationship between movement and texture. Its forward momentum is sustained by a rhythmic framework that provides the track with much of its identity. This reflects a producer more interested in how individual elements accumulate and interact than in making each sound stand out independently.

“Aktion Reaktion” adds another layer to the EP’s rhythmic language. Its title points towards a dialogue between opposing forces, an idea that translates naturally into the push and pull of club-focused electronics.

OTEE keeps everything under control, allowing the groove to evolve while preserving the understated character that runs throughout the release.

On the B-side, the perspective shifts slightly. “Retrograde” hints at a form of movement that refuses to follow a completely linear path, opening the door to a more introspective interpretation of the EP’s sound. Rather than departing from the ideas established earlier, it develops them through repetition and gradual transformation. “Parabola” closes the record with a title that suggests a curved trajectory, providing a fitting conceptual counterpart to music shaped by subtle adjustments rather than dramatic gestures.

Across its five tracks, Cloud Collision demonstrates a clear understanding of the relationship between production and dancefloor functionality. OTEE’s drum-led, loop-based approach gives the material a strong sense of cohesion, while atmospheric details keep it from becoming purely utilitarian. The arrangements leave room for physical movement as well as attentive listening, balancing persistence with restraint.

As the inaugural release on Open Water, Cloud Collision also offers an initial indication of the label’s potential direction. Its sound is rooted in Berlin’s club culture, yet it avoids leaning too heavily on familiar references or recognisable stylistic formulas. Instead, OTEE concentrates on the essentials: rhythm, space and the gradual accumulation of energy.

The result is a debut that values consistency over spectacle. Cloud Collision is aimed at the deeper end of the dancefloor, where a track’s effectiveness depends less on how quickly it attracts attention than on how naturally it becomes part of the room.
